Problem statement:

Traditional treatments often address physical symptoms but fall short in tackling emotional challenges like stress and anxiety. Art provides a powerful outlet for emotional expression, offering satisfying benefits for both body and mind. However, the integration of arts therapy into healthcare remains limited, particularly in Edmonton, where structured programs are lacking compared to cities like London, UK.

SWOT Analysis:YEG

The Solution:

    • Art therapy is useful for people who have difficulty processing their emotions in words.
    • Art therapists provide space for creative expression and materials like paints, ceramics, and more.
    • Benefits of art therapy include improved mood and reduced stress levels in adults and children.

PTSD

Significant numbers of returning military personnel experience post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and discontinuation of care is a concern. Using drawing-based art therapy as an adjuvant to classical therapies may provide a benefit for such military patients.

Kicking Off

In our team's first meeting, we reviewed the project brief and identified the following objectives:

  • Understand the current status of the benefits of using art in mental health in Edmonton.
  • Compare the results with those from London to identify differences.
  • Learn best practices in integrating art therapy into healthcare particularly in Edmonton.

We began by collecting data through online searches, focusing on research articles, case studies, and relevant healthcare reports. Our aim was to gather insights on how art is used in Mental health as a therapy and how it is currently being implemented in Edmonton and London and the outcomes it has produced.

Our resource structure includes a Project Manager, Project Coordinator, Researcher, Reporter, and Web Developer. Together, we have allocated time effectively to ensure each role contributes to the project's success.

Work Breakdown Structure

We have divided the tasks into six sections of the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) for effective management: Project Initiation, Benchmarking Framework, Areas of Comparison, Data Collection and Analysis, Findings and Recommendations, and Presentation and Implementation. This WBS helps streamline project planning by breaking complex tasks into manageable sections, ensuring clarity in roles and responsibilities while improving overall project tracking and progress monitoring.
